Transfiguration Sunday

Think about it – Sunday, August 11, 2019 – Transfiguration Sunday.

O God, who on the holy mount revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening; Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, on God, for ever and ever. AMEN. (BCP)

The Transfiguration Feast Day is on August 6th. However, Transfiguration is one of the Feast Days that can be moved to a Sunday Feast Day. So, this Sunday, August 11th we are celebrating the Transfiguration of our Lord.

In the Icon above the long-gone prophets Moses and Elijah are on either side of the radiant figure of Christ standing on Mount Tabor. The Apostles Peter, James and John fall-down in awe and confusion in this Transfiguration Icon! The elliptical shape of light around the figure of Jesus is the doxa (perhaps Greek for Glory?). It is showing the divine light that transfigures Christ.[2]

Can you blame the disciples for being awed and confused? If you would like to learn more about transfiguration, join us this Sunday at either the 8:00 am service or the 10:30 am service.

With His love and mine,
